Victorian Law Foundation (VLF) - a message to all teachers from the Education Team
The Victoria Law Foundation has recently completed research into the legal issues affecting Victorian school students. The findings reveal important insights that could help you support students in schools including:
- Young people experienced the highest rate of employment problems compared to older age groups.
- Young people were the least likely age group to recognise their problem as legal (only 19%).
- Young respondents were most likely to rely on family and friends for advice (20%) compared to all other age groups, rather than seeking legal services.
With young people less likely to recognise their problems as legal or seek legal services, it’s important to know what teachers can do if a student approaches you for support with an issue.
To assist, the VLF have launched a new webpage dedicated to our research on young people's experiences with the law in Victoria. This page also includes information about where young people, or those supporting them, can find help. Explore the full report here.
Kind regards,
The VCTA Team
