The Legacy: established in 1954
The Victorian Commercial Teachers Association (VCTA) is the peak body for commercial teachers in Victoria. The VCTA offers a yearly professional learning program and an online journal of classroom resources to all members and advocates for, and represents, teachers of:
- Accounting
- Business Management
- Economics
- Industry & Enterprise
- Legal Studies
- Civics & Citizenship
The VCTA prides itself on engaging in positive change in education at both a state and national level. The VCTA Board of Directors and the Staff at VCTA are governed by a modern constitution. The staff and Directors all have excellent working relationships with the Victorian Education Department, VCAA and ACARA and are regularly invited to represent teachers when consulting on education policy and related curriculum matters. VCTA has a strong foundation built on tradition and at the same time is a very forward-thinking organisation. Each year the members of the VCTA Board review the short term priorities to meet members needs and update the strategic direction.

The VCTA is affiliated with Business Educators Australasia (BEA), the peak national body in economics and business education, and holds a position secretariate of BEA. At a national level the BEA works closely with policy makers and ACARA and advocates for teachers and students Australia-wide.
The VCTA is governed by a Board of Directors who hold current individual membership. The Board is elected annually and appoints the President and both the Senior and Junior Presidents at the AGM. Other positions are appointed at the first Board meeting following the AGM.
In 2024, we celebrated 70 Years of the VCTA and prepared the following video with six of our VCTA Presidents, past and present, reflecting on and celebrating the history, legacy, achievements, and work of the VCTA over the past 70 years.
