Aayushi Khillan is an MD-PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne and founder of Body Buddies, a social enterprise supporting Transplant Australia through health education toys. She was the youngest board member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and is an award-winning youth advocate passionate about children’s health, leadership, and storytelling to drive meaningful change.
  Adam McCann, Mount Scopus Memorial College
Adam is a VCE Accounting and commerce teacher and has worked in a number of schools, including Mount Scopus Memorial College, Brentwood Secondary College and Balwyn High School. He has an interest in using technology and data to continuously improve his teaching practise and actively encourages his students to use spreadsheets to their full potential during their assessment tasks.
  Alan Wharton, Balcombe Grammar School
Alan Wharton is currently Head of Commerce and Enterprise at Balcombe Grammar school on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula and has taught, written, assessed and presented on Business Management in Victoria for over 20 years.
 

Alex Symonds, Public Education Economist, Reserve Bank of Australia
Alex is Acting Manager of the Education Team at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Prior to joining the Bank, Alex was a high school teacher and taught senior Economics and Business Studies, as well as a range of junior subjects. As a teacher Alex created a suite of online econommaics resources that have been used by teachers and students around the world.

 

Alice McKay, Christian College Geelong
Alice is a VCE Commerce teacher at Christian College Geelong. She completed the Masters of Teaching (Secondary) Internship program through the University of Melbourne in 2022, having worked in professional services for the first chapter of her career. She is currently teaching Accounting and Business Management, and enjoys helping students to make connections between the curriculum and their future pathways.


Amanda Vowell, Sale College
Amanda is a VCE Business teacher and Assistant Team Lead for the VCE Vocational Major program at Sale College.  After 20 years in the design and marketing industry, Amanda changed careers and began teaching in 2023. She enjoys experimenting with new teaching strategies that create meaningful and memorable learning experiences that all students can access.

  Andrew Adason, Deputy Ombudsman, Prevention, Victorian Ombudsman
Andrew Adason is the Deputy Victorian Ombudsman responsible for Prevention, overseeing communications, education, engagement and policy. Since 2015, he has held various roles at the Victorian Ombudsman, including Assistant Ombudsman and strategic adviser. As Principal Investigator, he led a range of human rights investigations, examining border closures during COVID-19 and use of solitary confinement on children and young people.
  Andrew Scott, Strathcona Girls Grammar School
After finishing an Accounting degree in the mid 1990’s, Andrew has spend the last 29 years teaching with stints in the state/catholic and independent sectors; including roles as elearning coordinator/ head of business studies/ head of science. This year he juggeld Unit 3 & 4 classes in Accounting, Economics and Psychology and a variety of roles of VCAA in both Accounting and Psychology. 
 

The Honourable Justice Andrew Tinney, Supreme Court of Victoria
The Honourable Justice Andrew Tinney was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria on 16 July 2018, sitting in the Criminal Division. Prior to his Honour’s appointment, he was a Crown Prosecutor (March 2006–July 2010) and Senior Crown Prosecutor (July 2010–July 2018).  His Honour worked across several Purana-related murder prosecutions in the Supreme Court, including those of Carl Williams, Tony Mokbel and Stephen Asling, as well as other high-profile prosecutions, including the re-trial of Robert Farquharson in 2010.

Dr Aneeq Sawar, Senior Manager, Workforce Planning and Policy, AUSMASA
Experienced research leader with experience managing quantitative and qualitative research projects across industry, academia and for government. Widely published with various national and international bodies (including the OECD). Passionate about leveraging data insights to drive decision-making that benefits society and communities. Enthusiastic about engaging with diverse and varied client and audiences and presenting economic solutions and updates. 

  Anthony Del Sureto, Ringwood Secondary College
Anthony has 8 years experience teaching Year 11 and 12 Business Management and Accounting. He brings both classroom expertise and professional insight from prior industry experience. His goal is to help students and colleagues build strong business management skills, fostering confidence, critical thinking, and practical application to prepare them for future professional success.

The Honourable Anthony North KC, Chairperson, Victorian Law Reform Commission
Currently Chair of the Victorian Law Reform Commission, with a distinguished career spanning over 45 years, the Hon. Anthony North KC is a former judge of the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. Admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1976, he was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1989. In 1995, Mr North was made judge of the Federal Court of Australia, where he served until his retirement in 2018. From 2004, he also served as additional judge of the Supreme Court of the ACT. As both a barrister and a Federal Court judge, Mr North has been involved in some of the largest cases in Australian history, including the pilots’ strike in the late 1980s, the Patricks waterfront dispute, the Tampa Affair and multiple native title cases. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Laws from the University of London. In January 2024, Mr North was appointed Commissioner of the Yoorrook Justice Commission. He was elected president of the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Agencies (CALRAs) in April 2025.


Anthony Simmons, Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School
Anthony Simmons (B.Comm, Dip.Ed, M.Ed) is Head of McNab House at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, and lead author of the Cambridge VCE Accounting textbook series. Since becoming a teacher of VCE Accounting in 1994, he has made important contributions to understanding how students think about Accounting, and how that should influence the way in which the subject is taught. Anthony continues to be heavily involved in VCE Accounting, from development of the curriculum to assessment of student understanding.

  Ashleigh Hoogendoorn, Caulfield Grammar School
Ashleigh has been teaching for 13 years. He has worked in both Catholic and Independent educational settings. He has a passion for teaching accounting and always ensure that students develop their confidence of this subject through a variety of practical retrieval activities. Prior to teaching Ashleigh worked as an auditor. 

  Professor Ashton De Silva, Department of Economics, RMIT University
Ashton is an industry-recognised educator, teaching most recently in areas including cryptocurrencies and digital solutions. He also serves as a council member of the Economics Society. As an applied econometrician, he specialises in forecasting, policy analysis, and economic security. He has led projects on ageing-in-place and local economic recovery, collaborating with NGOs, government, and businesses.

Ashvina Sinnetamby, Community Legal Education Coordinator, Victroia Legal Aid
Ashvina is a Community Legal Education Coordinator with extensive experience as a human rights lawyer, specializing in policy reform and promoting equal access to justice. Ashvina has delivered legal training sessions to diverse audiences including young people, practicing lawyers, and law enforcement personnel. Her work combines direct legal education with broader systemic advocacy to strengthen legal protections and awareness across communities.

  Brad Potter, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Accounting, University of Melbourne
Brad is the Head of the Department of Accounting at the University of Melbourne. He is an experienced and innovative educator, who has developed and delivered high quality materials to students and all levels including to executives. His teaching is heavily informed by relevant research and underpinned by extensive engagement with the business community.
  Caitlin Jones, St Michael's Grammar School
Caitilin has taught VCE Legal Studies at St Michael’s Grammar for almost a decade. She has aa Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours), and a Masters in Secondary Teaching. She has worked as a solicitor in criminal, civil and corporations law in top tier legal firms. Caitilin is also an experienced VCE examination assessor who has assessed the VCE Legal Studies examination. She is passionate about supporting students to achieve success through modelling answers to questions, and providing effective feedback reports.

 

Cathy Menz, Ringwood Secondary College
Cathy has been teaching VCE Business Management for 18 years at Ringwood Secondary College, working with colleagues to continually adapt activities and help students learn business skills. She has worked in Senior School Coordination or as a Head of Senior School for nine of the 18 years, and in these roles she is able to blend her well-rounded knowledge of curriculum and VCAA requirements for use in the classroom. Cathy is focused on building skills, and providing practical opportunities wherever possible, especially at Year 11.

Previously Head of Student Voice and Leadership at University High School and Head of Curriculum and Innovation at Prahran High School. Chris guides educators in creating engaging, student-centred experiences while streamlining their work and maximising their impact.   Cindy Bryant, Frankston High School
Cindy Bryant is currently teaching at Frankston High School.  She has extensive experience as a Legal Studies teacher and has a real passion for ensuring students leave school with some knowledge of our political and judicial system. Cindy is a currently on the VCTA Board of Directors and has been for 19 years. During her career she has presented numerous times at COMVIEW, written for COMPAK and has been a VCAA assessor.
  Clare Rafferty, Ringwood Secondary College
Clare is the Head of Humanities at Ringwood Secondary College. An experienced educator with over 30 years in the classroom, she teaches across Commerce and Humanities, including Geography, Business and Economics, History, and Civics and Citizenship. Clare is passionate about designing engaging, practical learning experiences that inspire students to thrive and connect their studies to the world beyond the classroom.
  Colin Rimington, Consultant
Colin Rimington has a Masters Degree in Criminology and Justice Studies. He is the author of a book 'The History of the Criminal Justice System in Victoria', which will be made available at the conference. Throughout his career, Collin worked with police prosecutions officers by attending court hearings, analysing files, and assisting members with their duties. Colin is also a Justice of the Peace.
  Damian Nicholson, National Program Manager, Financial Basics Foundation
Damian is the National Manager, Digital Learning and Program Development at Financial Basics Foundation. He is an experienced teacher of Business and Technology, who taught in remote, regional, and rural parts of Queensland for almost 20 years. A passion for financial literacy education brought Damian from the classroom into the charity space to oversee FBF’s education programs.
  Daniele Volpe, Business Management & Innovation Mentor, LCI Melbourne
Daniele Volpe is the Senior Academic Mentor in Business and Innovation at LCI Melbourne with entrepreneurial experience across Europe and Central Asia, including startups in Italy, Kazakhstan, and Melbourne. His global perspective shines through his mentoring, guiding students and teachers to transform ideas into practical solutions through design thinking, prototyping, and testing.
  Darrell Cruse, Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School
Darrell worked in public practice as a Chartered Accountant for over a decade before moving into education. He lectured at RMIT and coordinated their Masters in Professional Accounting and he was also a Focus Session Facilitator for the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Darrell taught at Parade College for 12 years and has taught at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School since 2017. Darrell has also presented for VCTA and written for Compak. He was part of the VCAA review panel that produced the current VCE Accounting Study Design and is the VCAA VCE Chief Assessor of Accounting.

 

David Adam, Northcote High School
David Adam obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne in 2014, and his Master of Teaching in 2016. He has been a frequent presenter with the VCTA over the years, with a focus on games, simulations and, experiential learning in Legal Studies. He is currently teaching Legal Studies and Humanities at Northcote High School.

  David Felbel, The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School
David is a VCE Accounting teacher at The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School. Prior to teaching at Auburn High School for 8 years, he worked as a Chartered Accountant and ran his own Financial Advisory business for over 20 years.  With this background, an interest was sparked in Youth Financial Literacy and, he is passionate about making Accounting and Mathematics accessible to every student with a view of growing their financial and numerical literacy for life. He has a strong data focus which he uses to assess and understand student performance and evolve his teaching.

  David Newman, St Francis Xavier College - Beaconsfield
David has been teaching Units 1-4 Legal Studies for a few years. He has a deep interest in applying current and past criminal and civil legal cases to the study design. He also enjoys true crime documentaries.

  Debbie Sekula, Mount Waverley Secondary College
Debbie has worked in Victorian state secondary schools for over 20 years and is a leading teacher at Mount Waverley Secondary College. Debbie is a co-author Cambridge's VCE Business Management texts, member of the VCTA's Business Advisory Group and has been an exam assessor over a number of years.
  Dr Di Mo, Senior Lecturer, Department of Economics, RMIT University
Di holds a Ph.D. in Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce with First Class Honours. Currently, Di is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at RMIT University. With a strong passion for teaching, she brings extensive experience to her undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Di has taught various finance subjects, including Financial Markets and Institutions, Risk Management and Derivatives, International Finance, Corporate Finance and Financial Planning. 
  Edwin Lee, Haileybury College
Edwin is an economics, accounting and business educator with a mission to transform the way students engage with the captivating world of economics/accounting/business. With a proven track record of significantly increasing student enrolment in commerce subjects in the schools in which he has taught, Edwin is a visionary in the field of economics education.   Elise Foot-Connolly, Education Officer, Zoos Victoria
Elise Foot-Connolly is an Education Officer for Zoos Victoria at Werribee Open Range Zoo. All educational officers for Zoos Victoria are qualified teachers ranging from Early childhood to Secondary Education. Elise is a VCE trained teacher and support in the development / delivery of programs that have been created through the collaboration and support of teachers around Victoria. As part of our role they aim to make sure that their programs are curriculum aligned and that they can support teachers within the classroom with current and relevant resources that are easy and available.
  Elizabeth O’Shea, Principal Lawyer, Maurice and Blackburn
Elizabeth is an internationally renowned expert on digital privacy rights and the intersection between technology, privacy and the law. Among her many credentials, she is the author of ‘Future Histories’ which looks at human rights and digital technology. She is also a Principal Lawyer at Maurice Blackburn and works on a range of cases against major technology companies.

  Ella Clifton, Casey Grammar
Ella is a graduate teacher at Casey Grammar School. She teaches Economics in years 10 -12 and she is passionate about making Economics approachable, exciting and relevant for students.  She is involved in creating resources for COMPAK and with Monash University, developing ways to strengthen the cross-curriculum priority of ‘Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia’ .
  Genevieve Johnson, Education Officer, Zoos Victoria
As a qualified teacher working at Werribee’s Open Range Zoo, Genevieve has the opportunity to engage thousands of teachers and students annually. Her role aims to captivate and connect students to specific issues through ‘real world’ learning in an immersive environment, while supporting schools to work alongside Zoos Victoria and take action for wildlife. She works within the Education team to develop and deliver a wide range of curriculum aligned programs onsite, as well as accessible online teaching resources to be used back at school. These highly engaging programs and resources are designed to support and enable teachers to deliver on a range of curriculum outcomes across the science, geography, sustainability and ethical learning areas and capabilities.

Harpreet Singh, Wyndham Central College
Harpreet Singh is a Leading Teacher at Wyndham Central College, specialising in VCE Accounting. He has served as a VCE examination assessor for VCE Accounting and Business Management. Before teaching, Harpreet worked for over 10 years as a Chartered Accountant in public practice and was a registered tax agent and finance broker, bringing industry expertise into education.  Harpreet holds a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Southern Queensland and a Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) from Monash University.

Harry Sanders is the Founder of StudioHawk, one of the largest independent SEO agencies in the world as well as the Co-Founder of luggage brand Kadi. Harry started StudioHawk in 2015 when he was 17 and homeless and 10 years later the business now has over 100 staff across Australia, United Kingdom and the USA (Atlanta). Harry has been named Forbes 30 under 30, B & T’s Entrepreneur of the Year, and won the Australian Business Award for Marketing Innovation, Harry’s mission is eradication youth homelessness in Australia.
 

Heidi Cornelissen, Brentwood Secondary College
Heidi, a VCE educator specialising in Business Management, Economics, and Accounting, brings a unique blend of experience to the classroom. After launching her career as an Accountant, she obtained an MBA and managed her own successful business for a decade. Heidi's educational journey led her to earn a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, ultimately guiding her to a fulfilling teaching career. She thrives in the classroom, imparting a practical perspective to commerce subjects. Heidi's passion for innovation drives her to regularly explore new teaching approaches, ensuring dynamic and engaging learning experiences for her students.

  Helen Voidis, Educational Consultant
Helen has had a career in secondary teaching spanning 40 years primarily in inner suburban low socio-economic government schools teaching middle years commerce, humanities, VCE Business Management and Legal Studies. Helen has developed resources for the VCTA, Clickview and other private educational providers, presented for the VCTA, assessed in Business Management and mentored new teachers to both Business Management and Legal Studies.

 

Professor Jeff Borland, Truby Williams Professor of Economics, University of Melbourne
Jeff Borland is Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of Melbourne and a labour economist with 40 years’ experience in studying the Australian labour market. He is currently a member of the Commonwealth Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee. In 2020, he received the annual Distinguished Fellow Award from the Economic Society of Australia. His main current fields of teaching are microeconomics, economic analysis of public policy and economic history. He has authored the textbook Microeconomics: Case Studies and Applications, now in its 4th edition. At University of Melbourne, Jeff has been a recipient of the Ed Brown University Teaching Prize and the Ross Williams Award for Career Achievement in Teaching in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

  Jennifer Morton, Marian College
Jennifer has taught Accounting, Commerce and Information Technology in Catholic Education since 1995. She has an extensive history of leading information technology in schools, introducing and embedding technology into the wider curriculum.
  Jenny Jacob, Assumption College
Originally from Dubai and now based in Melbourne for over a decade, Jenny holds degrees in Commerce, Management (Accounting), and Teaching from the University of Melbourne. With experience in business development, auditing, and tutoring, she discovered a passion for education and now brings industry insight and a fresh perspective to teaching VCE Accounting and Business Management at Assumption College Kilmore.
 

Jess Read, Assistant Commissioner, Industry & Trade, Productivity Commission
Jess Read is the Assistant Commissioner, Industry and Trade at the Productivity Commission. In her time working at the Commission, Jess has overseen work on Commonwealth-State relations and the annual Report on Government Services, and led inquiries into the National School Reform Agreement and Building a skilled and adaptable workforce (currently underway). 

 

Dr Jessica Lake, Senior Lecturer, Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne
Dr Jessica Lake is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne, specialising in the areas of privacy, defamation and technology law, past and present. Her first book, The Face that Launched a Thousand Lawsuits: the American Women Who Forged a Right to Privacy, was published by Yale University Press in 2016. Her second book, Special Damage: The Slander of Women and the Gendered History of Defamation Law, will be published with Stanford University Press in December 2025. In 2022, Dr Lake was awarded a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award by the Australian Research Council.  Prior to academia, she practiced for several years as a media and intellectual property lawyer.

Jim Ouliaris, Canterbury Girls' Secondary College
Jim Ouliaris is currently an Assistant Principal at Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College. He has taught Legal Studies since 1989 and currently teachers two Unit 3 & 4 Legal Studies classes. He is a co-author of the textbook Money, Markets and Citizenship.  He has also been a textbook author of for VCE Legal Studies with text ranging from Units 1 to 4. Jim is current the VCTA President and has been on the VCTA board for 10 years. He has presented for the VCTA on a range of topics such as ‘Surviving to Thriving for both Units 1 and 2’ and Preparing for the End of Year Exam. Jim has also been an advocate for the VCTA Advisory Groups, assisting in the past with Legal Studies. Jim has also done work for the VCAA coving areas such as VCE Legal Studies Study Design re re-accreditation, resource development, exam and sample exam development.

  Associate Professor Jonathan Boymal, Department of Economics, RMIT University
Jonathan has extensive experience in course design and management and is an established thought leader across business disciplines in Australia and overseas. His research specialisations include housing, urban economics, cultural economics, and population economics. He has published in leading journals and conducted policy research for the government.
  Julie Cain, Education Consultant
Julie has been a teacher for over 40 years. During this time she taught many Business & Economics subjects from Year 7 to VCE and had leadership roles in schools, the most recent as a Campus Principal overseeing Teaching & Learning in a large secondary school.  Julie has also taught adults at TAFE and university as well as preservice teachers. She has authored many textbooks for Years 7 to 9 Humanities, Year 10 Business & Economics, Year 11 & 12 Legal Studies and Year 11 & 12 Business Management. In addition, Julie has been a regular contributor to Compak, presented at Comview since 2001 and presents teacher professional learning in VCE Business Management. Julie was on the VCTA Board of Directors for 10 years and served as president for 2. She has chaired the VCTA Advisory Groups for Business Management and Years 7-10 Business & Economics. Julie is currently working with VCTA and schools delivering professional learning and mentors new teachers.

  Julie Paice, Braemar College
Julie has taught Accounting, Business Management and Year 9 & 10 Commerce for 30 years. Her obsession with formatting began at University when she discovered the correct way to use tabs, tables and fonts. Now she uses this knowledge to annoy her colleagues who just pass SACs on to her to format as this saves time.

  Justin Crane, Virtual Schools Victoria
Justin has almost a decade of experience specializing in VCE Economics, VCAL, and Junior hums. Holding a degree in Economics and eBusiness, he currently works at Virtual School Victoria after teaching in Eastern and Western suburbs. Prior to teaching, Justin worked in the IT industry, developing software solutions for mining, building and a range of other industries. His passion lies in equipping students with practical knowledge for success in a rapidly evolving world.
  Justine Hanks, Education Manager, Rule of Law Education Centre
Justine Hanks is the Education Manager at the Rule of Law Education Centre. She has over 20 years’ experience teaching Legal Studies in both Victoria and NSW and is passionate about creating classroom resources that help teachers to create deeper understanding of the rule of law principles and legal process. Justine the presiding Secretary of the Legal Studies Association of NSW.
  Kate McLean, Melbourne Girls' College
Kate has been teaching unit one and two business management for four years and unit three and four business management for three years. Across that time, Kate has used a number of real work examples, along side personal experiences to develop student understanding of the business world around the classroom. Kate’s aim for her classes is to create an engaging environment where students can apply their knowledge and understanding to the business world around them.

Kaz Abdulrahman, General Manager, Assets, CDC Victoria
With over 15 years of leadership experience in asset management, distribution, change management, and business operations within the transport sector, Kaz is a performance-driven executive known for delivering strategic growth and operational excellence. He currently oversees more than 100 staff and manages over 700 government-contracted buses across metropolitan routes, ensuring compliance, public safety, and service quality. Kaz holds a Graduate Certificate in Business and is currently completing his MBA. He specialises in stakeholder engagement and is a proven change specialist, passionate about continuous improvement. His strengths lie in streamlining systems, restoring stakeholder confidence, and driving innovation in public transport. His leadership style is humble yet influential, backed by deep experience in managing complex service contracts and operational transformation.

  The Honourable Judge Kellie Blair, County Court of Victoria
Her Honour Judge Kellie Blair has been a serving judge of the County Court of Victoria since 2021. Judge Blair is currently a Judge at the County Court Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court, and she also sits in the County Koori Court. In 2025, Her Honour was appointed as Patron for Women in Crime. Judge Blair has appeared at all levels of the criminal law jurisdiction in Victoria, primarily appearing as a trial advocate. Prior to her appointment as a judge, she practiced as a barrister at the Victorian Bar, specialising in criminal law. Her Honour began her legal career in 1990 and has previously worked as a solicitor advocate in private law firms and at Victoria Legal Aid. She signed the Bar Roll in 2002 and spent 19 years at the Bar, becoming one of the most senior women defence barristers practicing in crime. Her Honour was appointed as alternate chairperson of the Youth Parole Board on 18 May 2024.

  Keri Brown, Ivanhoe Grammar School
With 15 years in finance and now over 15 years teaching predominantly in VCE, Keri brings deep industry insight to classrooms in a wide range of settings.   Kevin Nguyen, Whitefriars College
Kevin is currently teaching both VCE Accounting and VCE Economics at Whitefriars College. Having graduated with both a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Commerce,  Kevin shares a large passion in bringing both the education and commercial worlds together in the classroom. Using both industry and classroom experience, Kevin places a strong emphasis on forming active and engaging classrooms that are filled with life and learning. This includes the incorporation of collaborative learning and teaching alongside bringing in many real-life scenarios and opportunities that will upskill students for life outside the classroom. Since then, Komal has deepened her specialization in Professional and Forensic Accounting, earning both a Diploma and a Master’s degree in Commerce.  She is currently furthering her expertise with a Master’s in Secondary Education at Victoria University, and she brings nearly three years of hands-on teaching experience to the classroom.   Leonie Harding, PBS Professional Learning Lead, Outcomes Connect Australia
Leonie designs and runs induction and professional learning for two hundred clinicians nationwide annually. She holds Masters of Education (Teacher Education) and Applied Behaviour Analysis, having transitioned to private enterprise from twenty years of Secondary teaching. She held roles as a Learning Specialist, Year Level Coordinator and classroom teacher of VCE English and Business Management prior to this role.
Luke Caldwell, Woodmans Hill Secondary College

Mark is a Community Legal Education Co-ordinator, specialising in community engagement.  He has over 10 years’ experience presenting to young people and training teachers in public schools and flexible learning centres. He is a registered lawyer who is passionate about bringing the law to life to help young people understand the law, and to support teachers with legal information.  Mark’s long experience performing on theatre stages helps him to be an effective trainer and presenter.

Marlee Zirkler is an experienced Legal Studies teacher at Northcote High School. She has been heavily involved in VCTA’s efforts to support teachers new to Legal Studies with her delivery of the Empowering Educators program, and participation in the Legal Studies Mentoring Program.

 

Martin Frauenfelder, Director Small Business Experience, Australian Taxation Office
Martin has over 20 years of experience at the ATO, where he built a diverse career across key areas including individuals, superannuation, and learning and development. This breadth of experience gave him a deep understanding of the tax and regulatory landscape, but his true passion has always been supporting small businesses. Before joining the public service, Martin worked across a range of industries—building and construction, civil engineering, retail, and hospitality. He also ran his own small business, which inspired him to pursue a Commerce degree to better support others on their small business journey. This hands-on experience gives him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs, and continues to inspire his work today.

  Matt Dunn, Viewbank Secondary College
Matt has taught in a wide variety of schools; all boy, all girl and co-educational. A primary focus of his 12 years of teaching commerce students has been producing tasks that connect theoretical concepts to student interest areas. As a House Leader who has become more aware of the relationship between wellbeing and academic performance, he has developed ‘entry points’ to concepts which many students may have found prohibitive.
  Matthew Bowes, Associate, Housing and Economic Security, Grattan Institute
Matthew Bowes is an Associate in Grattan’s Housing and Economic Security Program. He has previously worked at the Parliamentary Budget Office and Commonwealth Treasury in various roles analysing personal income tax, budgets and social policy. Matt’s research interests include housing policy, planning reform and public trust in government. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.

Before teaching, Matthew worked in finance, primarily within the 'big four' banks in Business and Private Banking. His career provides him with real-world insights, which he uses in the classroom to bridge theory and practical application. An experienced teacher in both public and private schools, Matthew has contributed to the VCTA advisory groups for Economics and more recently, Business Management.

  Dr Max Grossmann, Lab Manager, University of Melbourne
Dr Max Grossmann is an economist at the University of Melbourne who studies how and why people make rules for others. Originally from Germany, Dr Grossmann earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Cologne after having studied and worked at major research institutions in Germany, the United States and Colombia. His research uses experiments and surveys to understand when people support paternalistic policies, how information affects the freedom we grant to others, and why some environmental regulations gain public support while others face resistance. Dr Grossmann, an experienced full-stack developer and open-source enthusiast, manages E²MU, the Experimental Economics Laboratory at the University of Melbourne.

Megan is a highly experienced VCE Business Management, Commerce and Humanities teacher, textbook author and facilitator of teacher professional learning who is currently the VCAA Curriculum Manager responsible for Business and Economics. Megan currently oversees and leads development and implementation of VCE curriculum for Business Management, Economics, Legal Studies, Accounting and Industry & Enterprise, along with  Victoria’s Economics & Business F-10 Curriculum. Before joining the VCAA Megan taught in government schools in the North- West suburbs of Melbourne and non-metro areas for more than 30 years. Michelle was a teacher for 26 years until starting with VCTA in 2022. Michelle taught Accounting for 24 of the 26 years, incorporating ICT skills into many of her assessment tasks over this time. In addition, Michelle was the Head of Information Technology for four years at Caulfield Grammar School and later kickstarted the IT Department at The Knox School whilst taking on the Head of Commerce position at the same time.  Michelle has a passion for providing life skills to students including those found in ICT and Accounting with many of her students going into the Accounting profession in recent years.

Octavian Simu, Senior Legal Policy Officer, Victorian Sentencing Advisory Council
Octavian is a Senior Legal Policy Officer at the Victorian Sentencing Advisory Council. His work covers diverse areas of sentencing law, including the sentencing of children held on remand, the effect that sentencing reforms have had on sentencing practices for sex offences, and most recently, responding to the Victorian Government’s terms of reference asking the Council to investigate sentencing practices for occupational health and safety offences. As part of that project, he facilitated state-wide public consultation gauging community expectations around sentencing practices for OHS offences, sparking insightful conversations on the consequences of work-related harm, and notions of deterrence, remorse, and just punishment in the OHS context.

  Paul Dore CF, Juries Commissioner, Juries Victoria
Paul Dore CF has worked in the Victorian public service since emigrating from Canada in 1994, first in the state’s youth justice system and for many years, with Victorian courts. Paul holds a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction (Criminal Justice Administration), a Master of Applied Science (Organisation Dynamics) and an Executive Master of Public Administration, and he is a 2018 Churchill Fellow.  Paul has been Victoria’s Juries Commissioner since March 2012.
  Pauline Tizzani, Suzanne Cory High School
Pauline has over 34 years of teaching experience as a commerce teacher and commenced teaching in the final year of HSC Accounting and the introduction of VCE in 1991. She was a former Senior Commerce Teacher at Sunshine College and she is currently teaching VCE Accounting at Suzanne Cory High School, a co-educational Select entry school in the west.  Pauline was the inaugural recipient of the VCTA Ian Greene Award for Excellence and Ian Greene was one of her lecturers at university. She has had two students achieve a perfect 50 study score in Accounting, one at Sunshine College and last year at Suzanne Cory High School. Her student who achieved 50 in Accounting in 2024 also received a Premiers Award in VCE Accounting.  Pauline is also an experienced VCE Accounting examiniation assessor and have assessed examinations including in Northern Hemisphere for close to 20 years.

Peter Ireland is an acting Assistant Director of the Fiscal Policy Strategy Unit in the Commonwealth Department of Treasury. He provides advice to the government on fiscal sustainability, the macroeconomic impacts of fiscal policy, and macroeconomic management frameworks. Peter joined the Federal Treasury in 2020 as a graduate. He has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.

Peter is a former Commonwealth Treasury official who hosts "The Economy, Stupid" on ABC Radio National and reports on economics and business for Radio National Breakfast.  He has served as an economics editor of The Age, The Canberra Times and The Conversation and sits on the Central Council of the Economics Society of Australia.

Peter Voidis is the NDIS Coordinator at Paramount Inclusion Services, where he plays a pivotal role in supporting participants to navigate and maximize their NDIS plans. With over 20 years of experience in the events industry, Peter has demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial spirit, notably founding a record label in 2012 and leading an events business that included a podcast with a worldwide following. His career also spans international consulting, having served as a business consultant for four years. Rachel Johnson, Head of Corporate Affairs, Hydro Tasmania
Rachel is the Head of Corporate Affairs at Hydro Tasmania. Rachel has spent over 20 years in the energy sector, commencing with Hydro Tasmania in 2002.  She has worked across the business in a range of roles with responsibility for government relations, policy, regulation, communications, marketing and engagement. Rachel has also been Senior Advisor to the Energy Minister, leading the work on major energy projects. She is a graduate of the AICD. Rachel grew up in Tasmania and holds a Bachelor of Economics (analytical major) and a Masters of Regulatory Economics.

Rebecca has been teaching a combination of Junior, Middle and VCE Business Management at Bairnsdale Secondary College for 11 years. She has co-ordinated and run 10 student run enterprise or market days. Rebecca has a particular interest in making Business studies accessible to all students.

She is currently the Business Management Section Editor at the VCTA and develops and edits Compak articles so that they are useful and engaging resources for both teachers and students.

Sally Habersberger from Preston High School is a VCE Business Management teacher, with over 15 years experience, having also previously taught the subject at Box Hill High School and Sale College. She is passionate about creating an engaging and practical learning environment for her students, that enhance retention, student collaboration and performance in the subject. 

  Sasha Mildenhall, Taylors Lakes Secondary College
As a 2019 recipient of a Commonwealth Bank Teaching Fellowship Sasha is a passionate educator who remains focussed of the importance of engagement as a key driver of effective learning. Working in a diverse school community she has developed programs for high ability students and supports staff to develop authentic deep learning experiences. As an experienced Accounting teacher, she has been involved in the development of several versions of the Accounting Study design and mentors and supports teachers through professional learning opportunities for the VCTA.

 

Saul Eslake, Economist, In Economics
Saul Eslake worked as an economist in the Australian financial markets for more than 25 years, including as Chief Economist at McIntosh Securities (a stockbroking firm) in the late 1980s, Chief Economist (International) at National Mutual Funds Management in the early 1990s, as Chief Economist at the Australia & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) from 1995 to 2009, and as Chief Economist (Australia & New Zealand) for Bank of America Merrill Lynch from 2011 until June 2015. In between these last two positions he was Director of the Productivity Growth program at the then newly-established Grattan Institute, a ‘think tank’. In July 2015 Saul started up his own economics consultancy business, operating out of Hobart, and in April 2016 took up a part-time position as a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Tasmania.

Last year he completed an Independent Review of Tasmania’s Public Sector Finances, pursuant to the agreement between the Premier of Tasmania and members of the Jacqui Lambie Network in the aftermath of the 2024 state election. This year he was asked to undertake an assessment of the cases for and against the possible privatisation or divestment of 16 different business entities owned by the Tasmanian State Government – until the Government decided it no longer wanted that advice. 

Saul is a member of the Australian Parliamentary Budget Office’s Advisory Panel; the Australian Taxation Office’s ‘Tax Gap’ Advisory Panel; is on the Advisory Board of Jamieson CooteBonds, a Melbourne-based specialist bond investment manager; and is a member of the Board of the Council on the Ageing. 

Saul has a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Tasmania, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia. In December 2012 he was awarded an Honorary LLD degree by the University of Tasmania. He has also completed the Senior Executive Program at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business in New York.

Shaun has been a teacher of VCE Economics for over a decade with experience in VCAA marking.  Over the past few years Shaun has spent a significant time applying modern educational research into his planning and instruction which has led to significant learning growth in his students.  

  Simon Phelan, Penola Catholic College
Simon has been teaching a combination of Accounting, Business Management, Economics and Legal Studies for 39 years. He has been a Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) assessor in all four subjects and has performed numerous roles for the VCAA over that time. Simon is a current member of the VCTA Board of Directors. He has presented at Comview and written for VCTA’s journal Compak over many years.
  Dr Siqi Pan, Senior Lecturer, Economics, University of Melbourne
Dr Siqi Pan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne. She has extensive experience teaching experimental and behavioral economics across various year levels at the university. Timmee Grinham, Fintona Girls' School
Timmee is a highly experienced Economics and Commerce teacher, and also delivers Economics education consultancy. She is passionate about promoting broader Economic literacy throughout the community, using knowledge of Economics for the promotion of social justice, and encouraging more girls to study Economics. From 2017 to 2025, Timmee was a member of the Reserve Bank of Australia's Educators Advisory Panel. She writes for VCE Economics students and teachers, and she co-authors a number of VCE and middle-school economics textbooks. Timmee currently teaches at Fintona Girls' School.

  Victoria Blakston, Methodist Ladies' College
Victoria is a distinguished educator who has taught VCE Legal Studies and VCE & IB Business Management with outstanding results. She enjoys mentoring early career teachers and is an accomplished VCE Legal Studies author. As a VCE & IB examiner and experienced VCTA presenter, she shares her expertise widely. Viet Bui is the Assistant Director of Humanities at Balwyn High School, where he teaches across VCE Commerce (Accounting, Business Management, Economics, and Legal Studies).
